Default Publish Does Not Maintain HD Look

I recorded several clips in HD on a Flip Mino HD. Imported them into
Movie Maker. In the preview window in WMM, they look like HD (more
rectangle). I did all my editing, etc. Looked great in WMM itself.

Then I publish using the HD 720p option and once it is done, in Windows
Media Player, it looks more square and everything is squeezed into the
square making the person appear very tall.

I set Aspect Ratio to 16:9. Not sure what I am doing wrong. The goal
is to get the HD video as originally recorded into the Published video
to load to YouTube or Vidler.

Thanks for any ideas.

Be well,
Scott

The following article was written for XP Movie Maker
but still may be useful...also you may want to consider
using a Custom Profile...also mentioned in the article.

From Movie Maker 2 and Photo Story 3
PapaJohn's Guide to YouTube
http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Distributing-YouTube.html

Vista path to Profiles folder:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\Profiles
[you'll have to Create the Profiles folder if it's not there]

Sadly, I tried that as well. No luck. Still getting squished HD
videos.

You used the "YouTube-MM-HD-PapaJohn.prx" 16:9
profile when you Published and you still have a 4:3 movie?

Default HD with WMM

I have tried using this profile:

YT_16x9_HD_30fps_7Mb

And still ended up with a square not wide image when played back in Windows Media Player.

The file properties itself of the resulting file say 1280x720 but the right and left both have black and the picture is squished center. Thanks

Why not try the one I pointed you to? Maybe it
will work...it's worth a try anyway. You can
download it from the article and just drop it in
the Profiles folder:

From Movie Maker 2 and Photo Story 3
PapaJohn's Guide to YouTube
http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Distributing-YouTube.html

Vista path to Profiles folder:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\Profiles
[you'll have to Create the Profiles folder if it's not there]

Then it will be a choice in the "More Settings" drop
window when you Publish.

Default Tried it

Hi John, I did try the one you suggested with the same result. I attached what it looks like in WMM vs. Windows Media Player. Thanks for any other ideas. Take care

But wait...there's more...

Just an experiment...do everything just as you
did the last time it failed...but in Movie Maker -
Advanced Options...choose 4:3 instead of 16:9.

The problem is your recording size. You must record in 1280x720 otherwise it
streches, skews or scrunches the video to fit the format you want.
